The Centre is currently seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of research assistant. Under the direction of the Head of Genome Sciences, the incumbent will be involved in all aspects of the laboratory workflows involved in next generation sequencing research projects using state-of-the-art equipment.

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Reception and banking of nucleic acid samples
  • Performing QC on incoming nucleic acid samples
  • Work on methodologies for NGS library preparation
  • Independently operate of state-of-the-art genomics instruments
  • Independently troubleshoot in the event of problematic sequencing runs or library preparation
  • Optimization of workflows and independently recognizes / suggests opportunities for improvements
  • Operate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system, including independent input of new procedures
  • Methodical adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Plans and develops protocols to implement new genomics technologies to address research questions
  • Designs: SOPs for genomics procedures around new methodologies

Education / Experience
M.Sc. with minimum of two (2) years of experience in a genomics laboratory, preferably in a high throughput environment performing next generation sequencing

Other qualifying skills & abilities
Previous experience in a regulated laboratory environment is useful (SOP adherence, GLP, ISO, CLIA, etc.) is advantageous; Solid background in molecular biology; Strong organizational and communication skills; High proficiency in French is an asset; Ability to work well both independently and in a team; Proficiency with Laboratory information Management System (LIMS) environments and MS Office
